Basic demographic characteristics
Physicians
in the middle age of the life are an important group in the Spanish
workforce (figure 3), as a result of the numerous promotions in 1970’s
and 1980’s; it will originate an elevated rate of retirements in the
next 15-20 years. Women
percentage is about 47%, but in progressive increase, since in last
promotions this percentage is over 70%.

3. Specialty
distribution
Table
2 shows the specialty distribution of Spanish doctors, according to our
data, as well as its corresponding aging and feminization percentages.
If a physician posses more than one specialty, the last one has
been attributed to him.
