Physicians' demography

Conscious of the need to know the number of available physicians and its predicted evolution in the future to guarantee population's health care , CESM Foundation began to work on the analysis of physicians' demography in Spain in 1997, and in 1999 published its first study, El Número de Médicos en España. Análisis de una situación crítica (Physicians number in Spain. Analysis of a critical situation).

Recently we have renewed the analysis, updating it to date July 1, 2004 with new data and projections, in Demografía médica en España. Mirando al futuro (Physicians' demography in Spain. Looking at future). It shows a physicians' shortage in the middle and long term (significantly about the year 2020), with a short time to act if we wish to lessen the deficit. This web site tries to maintain alive the consciousness about this situation, to push a planning proccess in wich health-care authorities and professional institutions have an important leadership.
